The Women have tried to gain rights since the colonial times however failed to do so.
Influential women
- Abigail Adams was one of the first women to think of revolutionary ideas for changing the status of women. Adams raised her voice in behalf of all women however, she was unheard.
- Lucretia Mott was a slave that became a part of advocating against slavery helping form the American Anti-Slavery Society. She continued working for women's rights not only in The U.S. but in England to
- Molly Pitcher was one of the few women who joined the battle during the American revolutionary war. She was later on was grant a relief by the Pennsylvania legislature.
- Phyllis Wheatley was the first African-American poet in the U.S. and was recognized by the commander of chief George Washington.
French and Indian War
Women's contribution to the war had a big impact on the U.S. however they are overlooked because after the war they went back to their household duties.
- Women persuaded their husbands to go to war in order to earn extra money. They knitted clothes and sent parcels with food to the soldiers out in war.
- Women were spies in the war telling their allies about enemy formations as well as taking care of the wounded.
- The diaries of women also keep records of the war in journals allowing future generations to know what happen during and after the war.
Women weren't active much during the colonial times, they seem to be comforted into their household duties and thus didn't fight for their rights. that didn't happen until the next century when they started movements and became more open.
Women have been influential and extremely important in the lives of the American people. The very survival of the colonies depended on the one and the life that they gave and took a part of should not be underestimated. Thought the hardships and the conflicts that the new nation faced the women have always been there and without the roles that they played the nation wouldn't have survived.
